A recent study examining the effects of skills training programs for couples produced some surprising results. They found that couples who got a short relationship maintenance reminder were just as likely to be happy as couples who spent lots of time, money, and energy on learning specific skills to help their relationship get better.
What does this mean? It means that many couples can benefit from what we call “small dosage” interventions–education that doesn’t take much time or cost as much as weekend retreats or multiple therapist sessions. The RELATE Assessment is a perfect example of this type of “low dosage” intervention. By taking the RELATE Assessment, couples are given information they need about areas in their relationships that, if left unchecked, may lead to more serious relationships issues later. Research suggests this type of relationship “checkup” can pay huge dividends to most couples down the road. Again, this new study suggested that these types of interventions may dramatically reduce the chance of divorce or break-up.
So if you’re in a good place right now, but your relationship isn’t perfect, head over to the RELATE website to see if it’s worth $20 and 30 minutes now to save yourself some potential heartache in the future!
